A Classic TV Moment
Ed McMahon drunk on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
That's right, the urban legend is true. And here it is. Aside from the curio factor, the clip is a great reminder of how quick and clever Carson was, for those too young to remember.
Thanks for that treat. I feel for Ed, though--not only is he going through the humiliation of trying and failing to appear sober, but those efforts are being raucously lampooned... and it's all on TV! Carson's great, though.
So, Ball: you're a fan of standup comedy. If you had to choose your favourite 5 standers up of all time, who would they be?
It's a tough call, of course, but if pressed I would probably say Bill Cosby, Andy Kaufman, Steve Martin, Mitch Hedberg, and Sarah Silverman, in no particular order. I don't know if you could consider Kaufman a stand-up though. So in lieu of him, maybe Dave Chappelle, who I have been a fan of for many years, well before he got his show.
